Growing up traveling the world I developed a deep passion for many diverse peoples and cultures. The richness of the sights, sounds, colors, and textures ignited in me a deep appreciation for differences of all kinds. Living in Africa, Asia, South and Central America enriched my life tremendously and continues to be a treasured experience. As magnificent as this experience was, I also witnessed much suffering. This awoke in me a desire to be of service and led to my work as a psychologist.

About Dr Christie Sprowls

I am a board licensed Psychologist in the state of Texas and have practiced as a psychologist and therapist in Austin, Texas since 1987. During this time I have served as the Clinical Director for St. David’s Medical Centers Adult and Adolescent Psychiatric Services, and have been an Adjunct Professor, International Trainer and Executive, Personal and Work-Life balance Coach.

Another way I chose to be of service was to become a trainer for the EMDR Institute Humanitarian Assistance Program which has conducted training since 1994. Most often, I am called to disaster sites for this work, and I have trained in Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, seven countries in South and Central America, Turkey, Japan, and Cuba, as well as in disaster sites closer to homes, such as New Orleans, Fort Hood, and Oklahoma City. I have worked with UNICEF, the United Nations and the US Army, and various agencies and NGOs. I am an authorized trainer for the EMDR Institute and EMDRIA.

I am truly passionate about my work and feel fortunate to have found a career that affords me so much personal satisfaction. The privilege to participate in and witness the growth of my clients is my greatest reward.

For fun, you will find me enjoying life’s adventures: hiking on the Great Wall in China or in Big Bend, walking around Lady Bird Lake, kayaking in the Northwest, dancing, listening to music, gardening, or simply cooking and laughing with my friends and family.
